Prayer for anxiety
A prayer for anxiety, for the moment you are in.
Borrow these words when your mind will not slow down: short prayers for panic, morning dread, and sleepless nights, each anchored in Scripture.
When anxiety is loud, you do not need a long devotional. You need a few honest words and a truth to hold. Start with the short prayer below, then stay as long as you need.

01
A short prayer for anxiety
Jesus, I bring You my fears. I cannot quiet my own mind, so I ask You to hold what I am carrying: the outcomes I cannot control, the conversations I keep replaying, the what-ifs that will not stop. Steady my heart, slow my breathing, and help me trust You with today. Amen.

Breathe slowly as you pray

Release what you cannot control

Receive God's peace
If you have five minutes, begin here.
Quick practice
- 1Take one slower breath before the words, and let your shoulders drop
- 2Pray the prayer aloud or in a whisper, one phrase at a time
- 3Name the specific worry to God — vague fears stay heavy, named fears can be handed over
02
How to pray it
You do not need the right words or a calm heart to begin. Pray badly, pray briefly, pray honestly — the direction matters more than the polish.
- Take one slower breath before the words, and let your shoulders drop
- Pray the prayer aloud or in a whisper, one phrase at a time
- Name the specific worry to God — vague fears stay heavy, named fears can be handed over
- End with one verse and carry it into the next hour

03
A breath prayer for panic moments
When panic hits, long prayers are out of reach. A breath prayer pairs a few words with your breathing until your body begins to settle.
- Inhale: "Jesus, You are here." Exhale: "I give You this fear."
- Inhale: "You keep in perfect peace..." Exhale: "...the mind fixed on You." (Isaiah 26:3)
- Repeat for ten slow breaths — the goal is not to force calm but to keep returning to God
- If panic is frequent or severe, tell someone you trust and reach out to a doctor or counselor
04
A morning prayer for an anxious day
Father, before this day speaks, let me hear You first. You already know what today holds and what it does not. Give me bread for today only — not answers for every tomorrow. When my chest tightens, remind me that You go with me. Amen.
- Pray it before you open your phone
- Attach it to something you already do — coffee, the commute, the shower
- Let Matthew 6:34 set the day's borders: "Each day has enough trouble of its own"
05
A prayer when worry keeps you awake
Lord, the house is quiet but my mind is not. I hand You what I cannot finish tonight: the unresolved, the unknown, the things I got wrong today. You stay awake, so I do not have to. In peace I will lie down and sleep. Amen.
- Psalm 4:8 — "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."
- Psalm 121:4 — the One who watches over you "will neither slumber nor sleep"

Bible verses for anxiety
Anxiety narrows your attention onto the feared thing. These verses widen it again — not by pretending the fear is small, but by remembering God is near it.
- Philippians 4:6-7 — "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
- 1 Peter 5:7 — "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
- Isaiah 41:10 — "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God."
- Psalm 34:4 — "I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears."
- Psalm 94:19 — "When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy."
- Matthew 6:34 — "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself."

Turn your prayer into a guided meditation
If reading is not enough tonight, let the prayer be read to you. Share the specific worry you are carrying and Sabbath will craft a guided meditation around it — Scripture, a personalized prayer, and a calm voice, usually three to five minutes.

Guided text meditation
A guided prayer for an anxious heart
Sit somewhere you can be still for three minutes. Let your hands rest open in your lap — a small sign of letting go. Breathe in slowly, and breathe out slower. As you settle, hear the invitation of Philippians 4:6: do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, present your requests to God. Name the first worry that surfaces. Do not argue with it. Simply lift it: "God, this one is Yours." If it comes back, hand it over again — returning is the practice, not a failure. Now receive the promise: the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus. You are not asked to manufacture peace, only to receive guarding. End with one sentence of thanks. Then take the next hour — just the one — with God.
